"RM10? Cockney? Looks like an Essex postcode, that."

Dagenham hasn't been part of Essex for over half a century. Although most of the people that live around there think it is still in Essex but it isn't.

Essex ends at Thurrock. Rainham and Upminster are in the London Borough of Havering, and Dagenham and Barking are in their own eponymous London borough.

St George was made patron by the King. So doesn't really matter where he is from, could be Fozzie bear from China for all I care. Also Turkey never really existed either then. See the left whingers trying to hijack it. Don't they ever stop

Yes, spot on. Most of what became Byzantine was part of the Greek Empire and even after Rome took over was still people by Greeks, some of it right up to 1915 when they were kicked out at the same time as the Armenians.

St Patrick was apparently born in this country so that’s probably why we celebrate St Patrick’s day more than St George’s day.

He was actually English unlike St George.

Alternatively the whole thing is bollocks and all these fictional Saints are just an excuse for a piss up (which is fine)

‘ George was a roman soldier from Cappodocia.’

And most likely Greek.

All the more remarkable considering Turkey didn't exist in the 4th Century, it was part of the Roman Empire and then became Byzantine.

George was a roman soldier from Cappodocia.

Happy St George’s day, the day when patriotic atheists get offended because a Christian feast day is denigrated by left wing internationalists who are offended by the idea of England celebrating anything.

A valid point and on reflection at least St Nick still brings me presents once a year, St George cant even be arsed to do that, the lazy shit.

I personally think that St Nicholas is more popular than St George in the UK. But which one you prefer, you can't deny Turkey was doing something right when it came to producing Saints in the 4th century.

Happy saint George's day, the day we celebrate England's favourite Turk. 2nd in my case as my favourite is the guy who owns Ali Barbers restaurant up the road.

Probably good job we don’t make too much fuss about it, especially him being Christian or we would have to apologise for him and us in some way to someone.
The BBC would find a story about it why we should.

A few years ago somebody on this forum posted :
"the fact that nobody can really be arsed with st. George's Day makes me proud to be English".

Which is quite a profound comment when you think about it.

Re: Happy George Floyd Day!
I still measure St George against St Edmund (the original patron saint) and for me, he comes up short.

St George's Day!

The base line saint's day against which all others are judged.
